ReROW Hosts Corridors in Motion Workshop on Active Transportation Data

Co-hosted with TransLink and Vancouver Coastal Health, the full-day workshop focused on how active transportation data is collected, shared, and used to inform policy, planning, and public health. Through panels, case studies, and breakout discussions, participants explored opportunities and barriers to data sharing, regional coordination, and cross-sector collaboration.

Rethinking the Right-of-Way: 2025 Year in Review

Highlights from the year included the launch of the ReROW Research Talks series, the Student Symposium, and the first student-led IDEAthon, as well as regional workshops focused on mobility, climate action, and right-of-way governance. ReROW members and collaborators presented research at local and international forums and published work spanning accessibility, health, climate resilience, and transportation equity.

The year also saw continued growth in student engagement, faculty-led research, and cross-sector collaboration.

ReROW is thrilled to share that the StreetSmarts Collaborative has been selected as an awardee for the 2025 UBC PhD Collab pilot program.

The three-year program will support participatory workshops, conceptual modeling, and knowledge mobilization activities that connect academic research with real-world policy and planning challenges. The project also positions ReROW as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, creating sustained opportunities for PhD students to engage with faculty and civic partners on complex, real-world right-of-way issues.

ReROW co-hosted a panel titled “Taking Climate Action to the Streets: Research Partnerships for Change” as part of the 2025 UBC Sustainability Hub COP30 Symposium.

The panel explored how partnered research on urban streets can serve as a tool for climate action and social transformation. ReROW members shared perspectives on university-community collaborations, the challenges of interdisciplinary work, and the role of streets as spaces of climate resilience, care, and justice.

Panelists included faculty, students, and civic partners from UBC and beyond, highlighting the importance of cross-sector relationships in advancing sustainable and equitable urban change.

ReROW Hosts Mobility +1, Part 2 Regional Leadership Workshop

ReROW brought together regional leaders, practitioners, and UBC researchers for Mobility +1, Part 2, a closed-door Regional Leadership Workshop held on May 2, 2025, at the UBC Robson Centre

The workshop focused on strengthening university–civic collaboration around key right-of-way challenges, including multimodal performance, health outcomes, climate adaptation, engagement, and space allocation. Discussions generated emerging research questions and laid the groundwork for continued regional partnerships

The IDEAthon competition was the first undergraduate interdisciplinary event hosted by ReROW. Students from 16 different programs reimagined University Boulevard through collaborative problem solving, encouraging participants to engage with questions around mobility, public space, and the right-of-way.

We’re proud to announce that ReROW members Associate member Dr. Alexander Bigazzi (Lead PI), SCARP Professor Dr. Kelly Clifton, alongside Dr. Todd Handy and Dr. Eli Puterman have all been honoured with the Peter Wall Legacy Awards for its inaugural year for their project in Human-centered design for sustainable transportation in British Columbia:  An inclusive approach to infrastructure design based on diverse experiences of walking and cycling.
